Gtx 960 isn't showing up

So I just put in a gtx 1080, and left in my 960 to mine 24/7 while I game and such. The 960's fans are on, but only the 1080 is being recognized. I have no display outputs plugged in to the 960. Do I need that to be able to recognize it?

recognized by what?  The usual procedure, clean up the drivers with DDU and reinstall it. You dont need display output plugged to the 960

So heres the thing, a steam survey popped up and it gave me the results of the computer and said that I had a video card that was the 960 and then the directX or something was the 1080. But nothing else recognizes it exists.

Use device manager inside Windows.

tap in the motherboard BIOS then. Does it let you pick specifically which PCIe device to use as display?

I mean I want to use the 1080 as display

I would say it has to do with pci-e lanes.  You can set your 1080 to x8 and the 960 to x8 as well with minimal performance hit.  Never ran two different cards but that's my best guess

my guess is that the bios decides to lock the 1080 to be the only enabled PCIe device. You need to change that by setting PCIe devices to all be enabled.

How do I do that? I just went into the bios and I could find nothing about the graphics cards or pcie slots. Just the cpu and ram and sata drives

The first and second pcie slots share IRQ Channel A.  Meaning there is not enough resources to read both cards because they are feeding through the same shared pathway.

Right, so how do I change that? there was only 2 slots for gpu's in the mobo

you can't.  Was meant for 2 way crossfire meaning AMD Cards for the two slots.  So you can have 2 amd cards linked together on Channel A or you can have one Nvidia card in either of the 2 slots using channel A as that board does not support 2 way SLI.

Damn.... I asked on the forums before the i bought the 1080 asking if it was able to run a 960 and a 1080 and everyone said yes.

It is the difference between the -E, -A, and -K boards to be honest.  I went to the website and looked up the manual.

He's not trying to SLI them which is why we all said yes

It isn't the sli that is the issue.  Usually you would have a third pcie slot that would be on a seperate IRQ channel for pathing that you could put a second card on.  But because Pcie x16 1 and 2 share the same pathing then the only way to put anything in the second pcie slot and have it recognized are 2 crossfire AMD video cards because they are linked to each other and Share IRQ Channel A

So... whats the cheapest motherboard that I can get that is ATX and doesn't suck that can run both of them? I don't really need the ability to OC the processor but it would be nice to. I have a 6700k with 16 gb of ram and 2tb HDD 128gb SSD with the 1080 and the 960. I might just sell the 960 but itd be nice to know
