AMD RYZEN 5 1600 Build Advice

My friend is finally upgrading from a Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9300.

He has decided on a RYZEN 5 1600 but could use

recommendations for a suitable inexpensive MB and RAM.

He's not concerned with OCing but from what I've heard he should have  

at least 3000Mhz for RAM for Ryzen?

I got corsair value select 8GB DDR4 but that's only 2133MHz with a MSI B350 PC Mate with my R1600 but I do have suspicions that the ram is slowing my cpu

I got one 8GB stick - it doesn't even have a heat spreader

yea you should definitley be getting at least 2666 your dropping around 10-15 fps here

At least 2666.2666 is quite a large jump from 2133 but the improvements get smaller

With ram prices nowaday you can probaly get a 2800 for cheaper tho

You might lose 15% performance in some games, but it should be over 60fps in any event

There is not a set budget per se.

I was thinking round a hundred for MB and whatever it takes for compatible RAM for Ryzen.

This is being bought on a budget so the graphics card will be a future purchase.

Nothing below a 1060.

So just save the money until Ryzen+ comes out and is faster for the same price, and/or when Raven Ridge APUs drop, the iGPU in them should be pretty solid

 

is it mostly AAA games or esports titles?

ETA on new Ryzen stuff is Q1 2018, might see something at CES
