Hey guys, just got done recently building my first PC, and I was wondering, is there anything I can do now that would perhaps make an RMA, should I need one, easier? Do most products need to be registered, or will I just need original proof of purchase.

Thanks for any answers in advance!

Depends entirely on the manufacturer. Some will give you a bit extra warranty if you register. I know Zotac will give you a 5 year warranty if you register one of their graphics cards (at least where I am) but otherwise it is just the standard 2 year from what I remember.

It depends on the product, for instance I just RMA my memory ram with G.Skill and since it is a life time warranty the only thing they asked me was to send them the products with the RMA form they offer in their website, no need for the proof of purchase since it is life time it does not matter when it was purchase... only thing they asked is that the warranty stickers with serial numbers should be intact.

Try to negotiate them sending you a prepaid label first, this way you could save $$ on shipping to them.

Pack in a legit package, no bs, nice box and protection inside.

They will tell you what they require. Also make sure you don't send them a dust filled dirty gpu. clean your stuff yo of it's dirty. Also keep trying to fix your issue it might not even need rma, I asked XFX for an rma twice and ended up telling them it was fine as I could fix the card myself.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you have minor problems, dont RMA the item right away.

E.G. Since I got my Asus RV10E 18ish months ago, one of the RGB leds didnt have a working green led, and the onboard wifi didnt work. But it functioned so I ignored those.

Now that Im upgrading, Im about to RMA it and ebay the replacement. Alternatively if I wanted to keep it, I'd have waited until close to the end of the warranty period to get a new one.

Warranty hacks.

Linus is my fetish.
