Extending our homes wireless network

I need some help in the networking department

Our house is decently sized, and our router is on the lowest floor, in the basement.

Most of my family uses the wifi on the floor above, and its absolutely horrible. Were subscribed to 80 down and 20 up. In my  bedroom, which is a floor above and about 30 feet away I'm getting around 1.2 down.

What the easiest way, anywhere from $0-$200, to give me speeds that I should be getting the floor above?

-I have a wired connection from the router to the floor above in my bedroom.

-Yes I've tried tin foil.

I would say buy a switch for the Ethernet connect in your bedroom and hook up an access point. This way you have a wireless transmitter on both floors. That should help a lot.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Have any recommendations on what to get for that solution?

Anything pretty much, as long as it says it supports access point/router modes should be enough for your needs. Same for a swtich, anything should do the job, but I like the tplink or netgear 8 port consumer models for ease of use.

Just out of interest what speeds do you get when wired into the port nearest your pc?

So right now, in the pc plugged in im actually only getting around 45 down. Trying to figure out the problem right now, thinking that there might be 2 switches coming from the router to my pc. Miiiiight be the issue but who knows.

I havent picked anything up because of this issue.

Yeah, before doing anything else, you should check out where the speed drops off, might be an idea to see what the speed is like:-

  1. At the router directly plugged into it with an ethernet cable to your PC.
  2. At the first junction, same as above.

It could be the cables in the wall that are not up to spec, or if you already have switches, could be those... by testing at the router and the boxes/outputs you should be able to see where the problem lies.
