The perfect PSU for me?? :D

LaboonTheWhale

Hello all!

I'm currently looking to replace my OCZ 700W PSU since its starting to make weird noises and I would like to have a fully modular powersupply.

I used the PSU calculator on the Stickie and my Wattage came out to be 792W but that was with a R9 290X since it didn't have an option for a R9 290. I am planning adding a full custom loop (whenever it gets here.........) so which PSU model/brand is best?

I hear Corsair, Seasonic, and XFX make good PSU's but I am completely clueless in the PSU market. I figured an 850W PSU is fine for gaming with this set up. Can someone recommend me a model/brand?

My Rig:

FX-8350 OC'd @ 4.4Ghz

Corsair H60

Asus Crosshair V formula Z

XFX R9 290

1TB HDD WD Black

256GB Samsung 840

60GB OCZ Agility 3

8gb (2x4gb) Ram

3 Noctua NF-F12

2 Corsair AF140 (soon to be replaced by 2 Scythe Gentle Typhoons)

Edit: I derped on the calculator and did something wrong. the Wattage use shouldn't be that high. I'm sorry.

Psu calculators for the most part are highly inaccurate.

what about ax860i ?

Overkill. A good 600-650w would be plenty.

I think that he would rather have overkill than just squeaking by. Especially if he wants to upgrade. Also, it will be quieter because the fan won't spin.

hmmmm....  how peculiar. I guess I should've double checked beforehand by doing it again.I have no clue what I could've inputted wrong. (didnt XF or SLI either)

Its like an unnatural coil sound or something and it gets really annoying while its under load. or even web browsing actually... its doing it now...

600-650w is not squeaking by.

Often highly inaccurate references..

I don't think the OP calculated incorrectly. I'd blame the calculator.

The extreme calc is usually the closest to the real numbers than most. I base it off of that and it usually over shoots it. Reason why he could go 650watt but i would go 750watt modular just because well modular and it would make crossfire a little easier in the future.

I wouldn't crossfire 290's off of a 750w unless I didn't mind the noise--which I would...a bit...depending on the psu.

Well i meant a gold psu and a 750 watt should be fine and be reasonably quite.

Just look. The 6 core extrreme and those cards couldnt get by 650 watt. The 750 would be just fine.

Then don't get a 750w in case the OP cf's. Most people who plan to sli/cf, don't. Unless the OP is sure he will, he probably won't.

Again. That why you can choose. 600 watt or 750 watt. OP: Just dont get anything above 750 watt. It WILL be a waste of money.

Crossfire is when you add another gpu from the same family to get more performance. However most people who plan to don't because a newer single better card is almost always the better option and they get that instead.
