Why is the 1+ hype still a thing?

I do not get why the hype for Oneplus is still around when Xiaomi is so much cheaper for close to same specs?

not everyone likes miui (really, go post a miui9 screenshot on /r/Android Discord and get flamed hard about it ) and OnePlus is superior when it comes to cell band compatibility. 

 

I live in Australia, a country where 2/3 carriers require band 28 LTE. Does the Mi6 have that? 

 

Because the OP5 does. And the best thing about that is being able to take your phone overseas without worrying about cell bands or if 4G will work.

I prefer stock android but I guess installing the Microsoft launcher would fix that Mi 6, but the band thing could be a issue I recently bought a Blackberry and its signal strength is always at 1 or 2 bars of 5, sure the phone is normally not sold here but it still works. Mi 6 would not work at all where you live? O3O

It works when I am in the city, but drops sometimes completely in band-28 only areas. And in the country, once you get out of main communities, your signal just disappears completely. 

 

I'm now on Vodafone, which is the carrier that doesn't use band 28 (and they're a lot cheaper and my signal is fine. But I know a lot of people don't go away from the biggest carrier in the country, Telstra, who love to use band 28 as the primary cell band in all areas. 

 

I own a Redmi Note 4X for reference, no band 28.

I have not tried OLED only LCD is it really worth it? What about the burn-ins? O3O

Imo its worth it. Oled is so nice that its worth the extra risk (burn in is easy to avoid as well, just requires some forethought)

The hype is simple:

 

Xiaomi's devices seldom have full cellular network support in North America (i.e. you'll likely be stuck on 3G) and aren't as easy to buy here.  And let's face it, the explicitly Chinese name is going to spook North Americans who aren't as open to Chinese brands.  (Heck, many people don't even know how to pronounce Xiaomi.)  OnePlus?  You can get one with full support on numerous US carriers with a couple of minutes of shopping on the company website.

 

There's also the question of specs.  The OnePlus line has a bigger screen than Xiaomi's regular Mi phones, so it's going to be more appealing to enthusiasts.  OnePlus is also fond of overkill, like stuffing its phones with up to 8GB of RAM.  Xiaomi can appeal to some phone fans, but OnePlus is catering to the Bigger Numbers Are Always Better kind of enthusiast.

Meh, I vote no, but others (as can clearly be seen) vote yes. To me the difference isn't worth the burn in possibility (which makes me more conscious of brightness and leaving the screen on).

How hard is it to say Ciao Mi? Also how bad can it possibly be? Worse than my Blackberry here in Europe which only get 2 bars of LTE bad or worse? O3O

Xiaomi phones typically have incomplete or non-existent LTE in North America.  So you might get LTE if you have the right carrier, but even if you do there might be areas where you drop to 3G because you don't have support for a particular band.
