Can't open Netflix in Windows 10 app nor Edge

So I wanted to watch some Netflix in 4k looked it up and doesn't work in Chrome (720p max) or Firefox (1080p) so tried using Edge (4k) and when logged in my browser freezes.

I downloaded the windows 10 app since that's the other way to watch 4k Netflix and this takes ages to open if it even manages to open and then crashes or freezes.

My Dell 7577 is brand new and everything else works fine.

Anyone have a solution for this or know where to direct me?

Because it will take ages for either Netflix or Microsoft to answer me.

Can you please list the specs of your computer, including:

1. CPU

2. Chipset

3. GPU (or onboard GPU)

For 4K Netflix to work on PC, you need a computer that supports HDCP 2.2.

It's in my signature:

i7 7700HQ and an Nvidea gtx 1060 Max Q

It does support HDCP 2.2.

Scaled windows to 200% not recommended 250% but that doesn't seem to make a change.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps? Have you tried a clean format of the computer? If it's freezing/crashing on both Netflix App and Edge, then it sounds like a corrupted install of some sort.

Reinstalled it twice but for the sake of it I'll try again and nope nothing changed.

Works fine in Chrome tho, just tried in the Edge incognitothing and crashes too.

What do you mean by clean format, reinstalling windows? Rather not do that :)

Yes, I meant reinstalling Windows. Annoying yes, but may be necessary.

Have you tried contacting Netflix support?

That was my next step to contact both Microsoft and Netflix and see what they say.

But I hoped there was an easy fix that someone here had found out.

I have simmilar problem and tried everything reinstall, cookies etc (Netflix app under Win10 with newest updates hangs up and Netflix page on Edge hangs up on profiles). I think problem is related to support of hardware decoding thats implemented in both Windows app and Edge. Got this issue on kaby lake cpu withou dedicated graphics, but im free of problems on Haswell-E pc with 1080Ti.

Like in your case, Netflix works on Chrome which does not use hardware decoders from Kaby Lake cpu when playing stuff from Netflix (thats why im thinking its related to thoose implementations that are in Edge and app but are not added to Chrome).

Bad thing is that this issue isnt fixed from over a month.

Yes and the support from Netflix is fast but lacking they let me troubleshoot what I already did.

I tried Microsoft but after being 1st in queue for over 2 hours I had to go so I still don't know if they have a solution.

On my desktop with skylake it works fine but I don't have a 4k display so don't know if that makes the difference.

Hey

I dont have 4k screen either. Problem still exists only on pc with kaby lake cpu (he got fhd screen). My secondary pc with Haswell-e and 1080ti or laptop with 3rd gen core i5 (no dedicated gpu) have no issues at all. Everything runs on newest version of WIn10.

If like u said, on Skylake it runs ok then maybe its really the case of Kaby Lake hw decoding optimalizations in app and under Edge (like in your case, on my computer with Kaby, Netflix on Chrome runs great but again Chrome doesnt have that fancy Netflix opt for hdr or something).

What is wrong with you? Without knowing anything about the issue, you tell people to completly reeinstall a machine? And by the way, this "tip" is now on the internet and people are looking for problems in general thanks to people like you the internet is full of false "information", to search right and exact solution for more complex issues is nearly impossible because of you and your kind. Could you please think about that globally and think first WHY you type things like that ... to push your ego or to give usable objective help. If you don´t know the issue, never had it and could never solve it yourself, you cannot give the rifht solution.Wait for people who have, and if you like, observe the problem. But so not type false information on the internet accesible fo all. Did you ever search a solution and had to klick through offtopic? For sure, and that didn´t make you think about your behaviour? That could help us. Thanks.

*Rolls eyes*

Have you considered that a Windows reinstall may fix the problem? And if so, for some people, may be the ideal solution?

If someone comes up with a better solution, I’m all ears. But I’m assuming the OP wants all posible solutions, and may want to try a reinstall.

You dont even even need to trash the existing install - if he has a spare HDD lying around, he can use that.

Alternatively he can take a full image backup, which is easy to restore, in case it doesn’t solve the issue.

The problem was fixed by a later windows update so I just waited patiently :P

This is an old post you are replying too btw :P I don't see no harm in what he said I was considering it myself before I posted my question here but it wasn't that important to me that it worked that I couldn't wait for a windows update.

Awesome - glad you got your issue resolved :)

It's always a bit of sweet victory when a Windows Update actually fixes a bug.
