Go for the 1060 6Gb dude. I got the Evga SSC 1060 and after selling my 970 with a broken fan it was well worth it. The 1060 performs much better than my 970... why? I'm not sure... maybe the 3.5Gb debacle had something to do with it because after playing Wolfenstein 2 the game runs completely better with max settings on 1080p. I was struggling with mixed setting on the 970 to hit a solid 50fps but on the 1060 it's capped at 65 fps even with much higher settings.

Thansk for the info. I have decided to get the 1060 6gb as it seem alot more worth it

Is it justifiable to spend an extra £70 to get the 6gb gtx 1060. I know i have asked questions similar to this many times but i still can’t make up my mind and time is running out. Help!!!

Both 1060s are budget cards used to play 1080p, get the cheaper one, if you are not looking to save money get the 1070 and up.

Look at the games you want to play, if they use the extra vram but the 6gb if they don't buy the 3gb.

3gb will not be as good for rendering textures ingame or anywhere that uses your GPU really i find that 4GB is a suitable minimum but £70 for 3gb more? idk but i hope the info helped just a bit

just gona say, 2GB is just fine for 1080p low settings... the GTX 660 still does a great job in esports games and stuff...

the 1060 3GB has the core cut 10% or so, it performs worse than the 1060 6GB, getting beaten by the RX 470 while the 6GB trades blows with the 480 and 580

in the end, it comes down to what is the rest of the build, what is the max budget and what are you going to be playing, at what resolution

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If you like playing games on very high and ultra detail then you want more the vram. Otherwise you might as well get the cheaper.

I am going to be playing at 1080p at high+ settings and i will pair it with an r5 1600, msi b350 gaimg plus, cx550m (grey), and 8gb of ram

i have a big enough budget for the 6gb version but i just want to save as much as possible

I would say go for the 6gb version but also upgrade to 16 gb of ram sometime.

The 3GB version will perform about 10% worse than the 6GB version in games. If you are not planning on using like mods to enhance default game textures than the 1060 3GB is more than enough. However, in some more graphically intensive games, you may run into VRAM limitations. To be clear we are talking the Witcher 3 on Ultra so bottlenecking is to be expected. But 99% a VRAM bottleneck means going from Ultra to Very High textures. You can learn about why this doesn't matter here:

If he is only gaming, then 16GB is not at all justifiable. You really only need 8GB for gaming.

You could get a 4G 480 for around the same price if you don't prefer G-sync

A 1070 for 1080p gaming is totally BS. My 1050 Ti can drive 1080p 144hz.

I think 580s are in stock. I checked 480 on newegg and there's one seller that has it for like 400 for the 4 gig.

Get a 580, OP

Ok i’ll have a look for a 580 4gb for a good price and does it have a good compression system like the 1060 cause i saw some bench mark on a game like the witcher 3 and the 3gb version didn’t do that bad against the 6gb

If the 3G plays similar to the 6G then the 580 4G will do fine. the 8G won't show much of a gain.

Yep, not on high. It will do it on medium for most games though.

I agree the 3GB is the best 1080p card for the money right now. Hm, 580 price must have changed again. I was seeing them for $250 for the 8GB.
