Hi everyone,

I am new here and just got myself new computer..

main use is for browsing, video streaming some games and audio editing.

specs are:

Case: NZXT S340 Elite

CPU: I7 8700K

CPU C: Be Quiet Dark Rock 3

GPU: No Video card at the moment( haven’t decided what I really need).

MB: ASRock Z370 Extreme4

Men: G.Skill Trident 16GB DDR4 3000

SSD: EVO 960 for Windows 10

SSD2: EVO 850 for storage

Case Fans: 2x140mm Be Quiet High Speed (intake) and 2x120mm Nzxt fans (exhaust).

I did Not OC and don’t really know how to do everything is pretty much stock.

I have few questions:

My CPU Temp on idle is 26-33C (SpeedFan) and Voltage 0.656(CPU-Z), is this normal ??

I did try to run some stress test and I got:

*Prime95 CPU Temp went Over 80C and the computer shut down and restart itself.

*AIDA64 I run for about 4 min CPU Temp went up to 80 C and I stopped it( I don’t want to cause any damage).

*Intel Burn Test with Normal speed test I get 50-70 C , High Speed Test 60-77C , Very high Speed 60-80C and I stopped it again..

I am not sure if that is normal as the CPU is under 100% load but this results are ok? It look to “Hot” to me..

I don’t know if there is anything wrong with the system? But Maybe water cooling for CPU will be better?

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

TIA

Kfir

The 8700k runs hot. I built a system and overclocked under 100% load it was touching the 90's (When overclocked)

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

your fine but if you want to overclock you should get an aio

He's running a Dark Rock 3. That's top notch air cooling, it will get him negligible improvements

Thank you guys for the quick responses!

So even if I had to stop the test? I know that prime95 should run for at least 4 hours, mine run for only 5 min, same with AIDA I havd to stop at 80 but not sure what will happen if will let it keep running..

unless with my specs it’s not supposed to be stressed to this level..

It's fine, it should stop at 80c or so on such an extreme test and if it doesn't it will throttle (downclock) itself to avoid any damage whatsoever

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

nothing will happen, below 95 everything is fine
and before major damage it'll thermal throttle or shut down to prevent any issues
