New Build - Constant blue screen crashes..

Hey, hopefully someone can help a friend and myself out troubleshoot his new PC. Any help or suggestions much appreciated thanks for reading.

So my friend just built up a new PC specs are as follows:

Mobo: Asus strix b350f

RAM: Gskill trident z rgb 16gb (2x8) 3200mhz

GPU: Asus strix gtx 1080

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

PSU: EVGA supernova 80+ gold 750w psu

OS:   Windows 10 home 64bit unactivated

Now he got it all together, updated the bios to the latest version, have not overclocked the cpu or even switched the memory from the default 2133mhz. The PC boots to windows without issue, but after sometime on the desktop the PC just blue screens and shuts down once you start trying to do any updates or downloads etc..  So we tried using a DOCP profile for the memory which it shows 2400,2933,3200 etc so we tried those but still the same issue.. It seems to be quite random sometimes it stays on for longer periods..

Should we try manually typing in the timings for his memory? Could it be his windows install? Lack of drivers for the higher end hardware windows base drivers are just not cutting it?

We are both kind of lost any help is appreciated.

Cheers!

Open start and search for Windows Memory Diagnostic to run a test to check for memory errors and incompatibility.

Ok I will have him try that. Thanks

Also he just told me that his GPU is not showing up in device manager and will not let him download any drivers because of his windows version so hes upgrading/updating windows but is going very slow... Could this be why?

Where did he plug his video connections into? Make sure it's plugged into the GPU rather than to the motherboard rear I/O. If it's plugged into the rear I/O, the GPU is probably disabled in the BIOS.

He has them connected to the GPU via DVI

Is it listed in the device manager as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter?

Unfortunately he cant see his device manager right now hes upgrading windows through the media creation tool because when he went to install display drivers it said there are none for his version of windows.  I will get him to check once this completes. Its very slow...

Appreciate your help thanks!

Have him download the drivers directly from Nvidia rather through the device manager.

I think that's what he was trying to do initially but he said an error popped up once he tried to install it saying it is not compatible etc.  Apparently he read that you need windows version 1511 or higher of windows 10 for the GTX 1080 drivers to install, hence why now he is doing the upgrade from the media creation tool.
