audio stuttering via line-out port - ubuntu 17.10

i noticed an issue with my gaming pc (specs in signature). 

 

if i connect my speaker system to the line-out port, on the back of the mobo, the audio stutters. 

 

if i connect headphones to the front audio, everything is fine. 

 

if i connect my speaker system to the headphone out on one of my monitors, connected to my GTX 1050 via HDMI, everything is fine. 

 

so because i have workarounds, everything is ok, but i would like to solve this, just because i would like everything to work properly. 

 

side note - on Windows (dual boot) this issue does not exist.

Are all drivers for audio properly installed and configured?

i guess so. it's detected. it's using the driver that comes with Ubuntu.

Are there any drivers for your motherboard available for Ubuntu? I’ve never had issues with Ubuntu and audio.

no. but what i find odd is that it's detected, and front panel audio is fine. that's coming from the same chip isn't it...?

Should be. I feel like it’s just one of those weird Linux problems. You said you had a workaround, right?

yeah, i'm using the hdmi out on my gpu, via the headphone out on one of my monitors to my speakers. that works.

I’d just use that. It sounds like one of those weird Linux things that makes you pull your hair out until you realize the answer is so simple. I don’t know though.
