looking for a new phone.. they're all the same?

so.. few topics of these from me in the recent past, but with some new developments i'm gonna have to bite the bullet..

my moto G isnt what it used to be anymore with weekly crashes and some more recent faults like randomly adjusting volumes, etc :P

And in diving trough options in my price range... its like every company now has a bajillion versions of the exact same phone..

few requirements:

- android, preferably as recent and bone stock as possible. ideally i dont want older than android 7

- 16GB or more storage, aside from the random crashes this is my primary reason to upgrade. i can manage on 8GB, but "manage" isnt ideal.

- amazing battery life, i'm not a power user by any means, but my moto G still (almost) lasts an entire week so anything (significantly) less would be a grave disappointment

- if its micro sim (as opposed to nano sim) that would mean i wouldnt need to get a new SIM card, which in belgium means a full investigation and beard growth analysis to make sure you're not a terrorist at this point..

- headphone jack. i prefer function over form, if you dont, dont bother telling me why.

- for the love of god no camera bump. my moto G is close to a cm thick, and its just fine.

- no "phablet" my phone is a phone, it makes phone calls and fits in my pocket.

few thing that would be nice, but arent required:

- microSD card slot

- dual sim

- wireless charging

- bonus points if i can get it from a place that ships with Bpost, PostNL loves to lose my packages, and their couriers "dont always break into my back yard because they dont understand what a doorbell is for and what a back fence means"

budget is on the low end but flexible, looking in the €100-300 range, the higher in that range, the more boxes it needs to tick.

location should be available to your left. (for those with a cervical herniated disc*: belgium.)

oh, and best to add, this thing needs to last me enough years for me to forget how old it is ;)

°that essentially means a locked up neck, btw.

Well if the S8 was in your budget I'd suggest that but that's nano sim and too expensive...

Also you can cut down a micro sim

That's....really interesting....I would understand it being a process to get a new number, but a new sim seems like it should be simple.

Maybe Huawei P10 Lite? It's at the upper end of the budget tho. Atleast in my country. It has bigger battery but at the same time bigger screen aswell.

It is amazing how long phones can last on battery when they're actually being used as phones instead of computers in a pocket.

Was going to suggest taking a look at the LeEco Le Pro 3, but not only is it hardly available in the EU, it is actually worse than the US variant, and is bonkers expensive, bordering along the "may as well get a proper flagship" price. Over here, the phone carries a 4k mAh battery, an SD821, 4 GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage for $200.

Well, the Huawei 6x is another strong contender. It uses an 8 core Cortex a53-based Kirin 655 chip, which being on 16nm, is extremely efficient even while gaming. Despite the smaller battery size compared to the LeEco (3300 mAh), battery life is superior. And it seems to be available, at least in Amazon UK.

Well, it's not all that amazing when you consider the fact that the battery in modern smartphones is around ten times the size of traditional dumb phones, which easily lasted over a week on a single charge.

Although even not using my phone much I still can only get 2-3 days use out of a single charge.

When using just the GSM option in networks, and keeping all background activity to a minimum, my phone can make it through the night without losing a percent of charge. Leaving LTE and HSPA on, it will lose 2-3% over the course of the night.

Can't you cut a micro SIM down to a nano SIM?

if it wasnt already a regular sim cut down to a micro sim.

because i'm not a power user, and because i have banished all apps that leave a service running (kik, facebook, etc.) from my phone. my phone is there if I need *IT*, not the other way around.

as for the SIM thing.. its to avoid the crap that happened to LTT a while back, and to "avoid terrorists stealing your phone"
