To make it short, my current bios needs to be updated in order to support an i7 7700k. My question is, when updating bios, do you need the latest one or can I just get the bios update that supports the i7? I know the issues with updating bios sometimes and therefore only want the one I need if possible.

I know motherboards are different but I figure it’s the same concept for most. Mine is a 2015 version atm.

You don't have to get the very newest one, but check the update release notes, maybe they fixed other issues in later versions.

If you're going to flash the BIOS anyway, why would you ever want to not flash it with the most recent version?

You are updating your BIOS anyway.

It's exceptionally uncommon for a BIOS update to introduce new problems, they only fix older problems with newer versions.

True, but its more likely that older version has issues that aren't present anymore in latest version. Check release notes. Usually 2nd update after compatibility adds stability and performance. Or 3rd.

Overall, just be careful and read mobo's instructions before doing anything. When its installing, DO NOT TOUCH anything before you have windows saying to load preferred settings, select boot device or greeted with Windows login/desktop. Some mobos tend to do couple reboots and stuff like that where you think its finished.
