Technically it is possible but would be very hard to create.

I have been looking into those HDPlexes and Pico PSUs, but as im getting a FM2+ board with a A8-6600K and possibly a Athlon X4 870K later on, i dont know if its going to be enough wattage. Of course, if my board supports overclocking, and it supports, im going to do it, cause, FM2+ is old and i want to get the most out of it. For now, i have a HD 5450 1Gb card in the PC, but of course, thats going to get upgraded too!

As the title already says, would it be possible to build a PSU by yourself ? I have the plans in my head for a small form factor PC with a custom made Wooden PC case. There wont be space for a standart PSU, so im thinking about, would it be possible.

Yes, but in theory, it's too much work to be worth it.

maybe hack a cheap psu. remove case and bend the heat sinks sideways so it will be shorter.

Ofc it would, I don't think PSUs are that hard to build after all my 17-year-old brother built one. However, it will be harder to build one to the right spec, and probably getting the right components for this would also be harder, in addition computer hardware is pretty susceptible to bad power so I'd rather look for a PSU made by professionals that fit, or make the custom case fit the smallest one you can find.

This is an example of spending so much time wondering if you could that you don't spend any time thinking about if you should

Actually, as a person that kinda knows how electronics work, atleast the basic ones, i know that it would be possible, but i dont know if its a good idea to, even tho i need a custom one for a custom rig.

In theory it is, especially since you can get all you need from Mouser and Digi-Key.

But it would cost way more than an off the shelve unit and probably perform way worse at the same time. So it's not a viable option.

And since you had to ask, I have to assume that you are not an electrical engineer and thus lack the knowledge to do that at all.

But that doesn't really matter since it makes no sense from a finacial standpoint. You can get good qualty units for 100€ with redicilously long warrantys...

So why get wasted on making one yourselve when you can't compete with whats on the market anyway??

It's not even remotely worth your time.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
