What sound card?

Go to solution Solved by MayflowerElectronics,

No, it will sound worse with a sound card.

Read the audio FAQ to learn more.

So recently my corsair 1500's died and i'm looking into getting a set of HD558's because not only is the audio much better than that of a headset, but also I can wear them in public to listen to my music. Therefore would you recommend getting a sound card? If so what am I looking for, I've never looked into sound before, I'm on a budget, so nothing more than £50.

Thanks,

James

The AD's a bit too expensive for me, so out of the DT990 and the HD558's, which would you most recommend and why? Sorry for the all the extra questions, just want to make sure i'm buying the best I can with the budget I have.

I don't like sennhesier. They're headphones all sound the same and they're just kind of "meh" for me.

DT 990's have enhanced treble and bass which is what I look for in a headphone. Good for bassy music and for immersion in gaming.

Conversely, I prefer the Sennheiser sound - Beyerdynamics are too sibilant for me. The build quality of the Beyer. is nicer with more metal and thicker plastic, but I prefer the fit of the oval ear cups on the Senn.

Neither is a "bad" headphone in any regard.

Ok, the only reason being is i've seen the image showing a range of headphones, a cheap mic and then something like the FiiO Olympus. Thanks though guys, just saved me a couple of quid!

If you go with a 250 ohm version of the Beyer., you will likely need something to drive them louder, like a FiiO E10 (which is NOT a soundcard technically).
