144 hz WQHD in Overwatch with i7 3770@3.4

Hey LTT-Community,

I have and ~5 year old PC with a GTX 660 TI, i7 3770 @ 3.4GHZ with 16gb of ram.

I want to replace my GTX 660 TI with the new nvidia generation cards ( 1060,1070, 1070 ti ... ).

My goal is it to run 144hz on WQHD in Overwatch on high or medium ( not epic!!) settings.

Does anyone has this setup or something simular?

Or can someone predict if my cpu will bottleneck with any of these cards?

And if its working which card will be the best in price/performance?

Thanks !

Realistically I'd say you're looking at a 1070 or a 1080 for maximum FPS at 1440p. You can though get very good fps with a 1060 at 1440p for OW and many other games so it's really down to your budget and how badly you want the extra fps. I run a Korean panel, overclocked to about 110Hz and run it with a 1060 and get really good FPS but not the maximum. For that you would need a 1070 or above. Then again those monitors only cost around $200 with Freesync so it really is about how fussy you are and what kind of budget you have. So, I would say that for OW the sweet spot is the 1060 in terms of price performance but don't expect it to run other games on max settings at max FPS at 1440p.

Thanks for this fast answere :)

The monitior is not the problem, I will get a good one with gsync.

But before I buy this monitor, I want to be sure that my cpu is good enought to handle 1440p on 144hz in Overwatch.

I used to run my 3770k with a 1080. Had plenty of issues with games but only a hand full. Don't play ow but you should be good on that game. Worst case cap the frames or turn up the settings.

  • 1 year later...

what fps was the 3770 able to achieve? I want to get a 2600 or 3770 to hit 144 fps on overwatch. I know my gpu can do it so I want to get the cheapest cpu to hit 144 fps.
