Is Cryorig H7 good for i5-8600k?

ryuzu

Hello! As the title suggests, is the Cryorig H7 any good for overclocking the i5-8600k? Or should I just get the Noctua NH-D15? I'm planning to hopefully overclock it up to 5ghz or more.. Thanks!

Are you doing like 144hz gaming?

I would highly suggest buying an i7 8700 instead in most cases.

You want to delid it and get liquid metal on it before considering coolers, the Cryorig stuff should be fine though, or Master Liquid 240s are always going on sale.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Eh, I don't like the idea of delidding the cpu, it kinda looks intimidating to me. And yeah 144hz gaming on mostly games like csgo and such.

Most users over at OC3D are getting 5.0+ on the H7 and Dark/Pure Rock.

Coffee Lake seems to be a cooler and more stable chip than Kaby Lake is.

It's 5GHz, the H7 should serve you well at 5GHz

It's easily worth it to delid, you can pay silicon lottery to do it for you, they reseal it with liquid metal, but ya given the price difference unless you really want to hit like 500fps in CS:GO at 5ghz, I would either get the i7 8700, or save a fair amount of cash on Ryzen, but ryzen will only go to about 100fps in AAA games.

Coffee lake's TIM isn't as bad as Kaby Lake's but you can still drop 10C easily, even up to 20C since dropping temps also lowers power leakage. It's 100% worth investing into if you're doing overclocking.
