Yes chances are that Volta will be out by mid 2018. But that subject is up in the air right now. Some people are saying early 2018, some are saying late 2018, and others are saying 2019 because Nvidia has no real need to release it because they don't have any legitimate competition from AMD.

Most likely yes, Nvidia will release Volta (?) cards next year. I don't think it is known when. Maybe in the late spring/ early summer.

You can always wait for the next thing, if you need a computer now, you can just buy a 1080 now and be happy.

Nvidia is hoding out on releasing anything for a while as Vega wasn't quite the competition they were expecting. No need to improve if you are the best. So the new lineup may be a full year away, so it is a question of 'well the next gen will be better, so do I wait?', I find that pointless, upgrade now.

Honestly I can't answer that because we have no clue for when Volta is coming. If it is late 2018 early 2019 (which is most likely) then get a 1080.

The 1080 will be plenty fast for the forseeable future, so I'd say it is a safe buy right now. Even if Nvidia comes out with something much faster, the 1080 should be fast enough for the next 3-4 years, depending on your settings.

I would say it it only ever worth 'waiting' if a new generation of cards is 2-3 months or less away. Right now, it is more like 9+ months away, so you can be enjoying games for 9 months longer.

I wouldn't wait, I never do and im just a disappointed with each new card. Ive got 3 1080's so far. Gotta run 2 to even play anything. They are so cheap for the right cards, no reason not to get one.

What are your settings? What are your currently gaming at? There are a ton of variables to be honest.

If you are building a new high end PC, then a GTX 1080 with a Ryzen 5 1600 or I5 8400 are the way to go.

CPU: Ryzen R7 1800x (4.0GHz) | AIO: Master Liquid Pro 240 | MOBO:  MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM

RAM:  Gskill TridentZ RGB 3200(16gb) | GPU: Evga FTW ACX  3.0 GTX 1080(2x)

                             SSD: Samsung Evo 250gb | HSSD: Seagate 2TB | Case: InWin 303 Black | PSU: Evga 210 1000w
