1070ti vs 1080, which more worth for price

Is it worth upgrading 1070 ti amp to 1080 mini? The price difference is only 37. Even if I don't need it, is it more worth for 1080

Correct me if I am wrong but is overclocking not also quite limited with just 1 fan? Cooling wise?

I am referring to the 1080 mini

No. With the mini you sacrifice some cooling for next to no performance increase

Which 1080 Mini? Don't buy it if it only has one fan. Even the 1060 starts to hit high temps with one fan.

He's talking about Zotac's 1080 mini, a card with cooler from a typical custom board 1060.

Pascal is not usually thermal bound in most cases it's voltage. Granted sure you can get it hot enough to throttle jsut typically thats not where msot people run into things. It's the locked max extra voltage you get stuck with.

I'd go with the 1080 personally, the performance increase makes up for any possible throttling, then again it probably is going to be a loud card given the fan will work on 100% at full loads.

This is more of a personal preference between raw power at the sacrifice of some convenience or vice-versa.

I guess you are right and a good answer, it all comes down to personal preference and what will suite what you plan to do with the cards

I looked up a few things and I think I've decided to go with a msi 1070 ti gaming just because it looks beefier with only less than $10 increase to the zotac. It also has some sick lights.

It all comes down to you, some people will rather go with the zotac 1080 mini, it has 2 fans atleast and you can overclock it, but then again a 1070TI will be able to be overclocked quite decently as well, I personally think that the difference gaming wise would not be that major, people are welcome to correct me if I am wrong. I cannot find any reviews yet comparing a 1070TI to a 1080 mini but if you look at a mini compared to a full size 1080 - there is such a little difference when it comes to gaming, only difference seems to be heat, the mini runs a bit hotter, but not enough to cause trouble. Once again, comes down to personal preference.

Where I am, the mini in my store just dropped and it cost 28 less than msi 1070 ti... But i heard oc with 1070ti is quite good and maybe investing in the msi is smarter? I dont know, would there be a large diff in how much they can oc?

That I will not be able to answer, I have seen a zotac 1080 overclock higher than a standard 1080, given it ran hotter, but still could handle the high load and did not bomb out where the standard 1080 did, as for the 1070TI I honestly do not know, I have not tested it myself and there are not too many videos out on it, keep in mind though overclocking depends from 1 card to another, no 2 cards are the same, I would go for the 1080 just for that fact that it is cheaper and out of the box it will be faster than the 1070TI. The 1080 has more CUDA cores and higher memory clock. also keep that in mind

Oh, I meant the 1070ti mini dropped prices, the 1080mini is still a good bit higher. So im going for 1070ti

If both cards are mini cards, the 1080 will be significantly better. You wont be able to overclock much either one, since they will run quite loud and hot. Generally, only buy mini cards if you have a mini ITX case.

If the 1070Ti is a regular card, and the 1080 is a mini card, you might be able to overclock the 1070Ti to be faster than the 1080. But this is NOT guaranteed. Some cards overclock better, some worse. Luck of the draw. Personally I would choose the card that is faster out of the box. After overclocking, the 1070Ti might run just as loud and hot as the 1080 Mini.

If they are both regular cards (not mini), you can overclock both, and the 1080 would be faster again.

I personally don't get how you would be upgrading from a 1070ti that came out a week ago.
