Hello, I just have few questions about this one year old Pentium N4200 (Q3 2016), I would like to buy a new laptop, actually Acer Swift 1 and I suffer from question, if that CPU is good for basic things. Browsing internet with Chrome, multitasking with Office apps etc. - just standard things. Is this CPU good enough to handle this at "smooth" performance? It runs at clock 1,1 GHz, but as I saw, it speeds up at 2,5 GHz if necessary. Please let me know what do you think.

It's a quad core with 4 threads, it's fairly good for some simple 'office like' tasks.

You can't expect that kind of multitasking with 20 tabs in chrome and word, powerpoint and spotify in the background. But for a few tabs in chrome plus writing something in word while listening to music is fine. I have an Celeron J9100 running in a file server in a company and it even has an Windows 10 VM on it and it runs perfectly smooth.

If you are just looking for office tasks and web browsing go for it ;)

PLUS my Tablet runs an Core M3 at 0.8 GHz with boost to 2GHz and I can do light photoshop work if I really need to so yes, the Pentium should do!

Well, I am from Czech Republic and notebooks are a bit more expensive, but I would like some at max price of 580 dollars. I want notebook, which is not big - so it is portable, which is not plastic (Acer Swift 1 has metal case) and with some good battery backup, but my priority is Full HD display and less than 15 inches, 4 gigs of RAM and some standard CPU which can handle this stuff.

PS: Acer Swift 1 is actually considered as ultrabook, because its small and really thin, that's why I really like it.

No idea where you can shop then, but I would highly suggest looking into the used Thinkpad Market, getting something with an i5 or i7, slapping in an SSD and 8GBs of RAM, a new battery, and you should be good to go.

Used thinkpad displays are more like 1280x800 or 1600x900 though, when they got into 1080p on newer models they ruined the keyboard

For example we can readily buy Thinkpads with i5 2520Ms for under $200 USD

Thank you, but I feel like I won't use the power of i5 or i7, I just wanna do basic things, I guess I won't even need 8 gigs of RAM. I want a notebook for school things, because I have a PC which is powerful and I can game on it, so I want notebook for school, for typing documents, creating presentation and only browsing internet. I really appreciate your answer.

Isn't the cost near the same in the end? If so you might as well get the higher performing parts, and you'll need the RAM if you plan to do a lot of browser tabs.

Plus the keyboard is best in class

Well, it's cheaper, but used, so that's why. I'm a person, who likes to have everything organised and clean, so I won't have a lot of tabs opened, I always have 2 or 3 opened at the time. I would like to have a new laptop, not used.

If you want something that will just work as a basic PC they make Chinese 1920x1200p IPS display tablets that are pretty cheap
