Are there any good routers under $100? I want to replace my old router with something newer. I would be using it as an access point.

The google one seems promising but doesn't have any options really for being a switch as well

Is the ones I listed any good? I have a 1500 square feet home.

You're going to need to research reviews like Crazy, or buy an extender/repeater

Not 100% sure about range. But the To link Archer c7 is pretty good. I think my sister's old place was 1300 sq feet and it did fine.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I don't know why no one asking the obvious question.

Do you need a router or just access point?

For $60, you can buy plenty Access point and set them as repeater/access point, spread it around your house and you'll get much better experience with wireless instead getting 1 high gain access point for whole area.

If you need a router with WIFI, with that budget there will always a downside, and usually with wifi, and/or high speed internet, as in it would not deliver fast enough.

Personally I'm using this.

I've purchase used unit around $18, and flash it with 3rd party firmware called gargoyle, works stable and fine, stock firmware? not so much.

Most people like me want one device not two.

Sure, but most people also don't understand what's the reasonable expectation of hardware they've purchased.

Just because it has 3 antenna doesn't mean it will cover whole 200m² area.

I need a router. I currently have an TP-Link Archer C50 and it has been dropping the connection a lot lately.

I find this online and I was wondering if this is good?

What does the gargoyle firmware do?

Gargoyle is 3rd party firmware based on OpenWRT mainly covering TPLINK hardware, but unfortunately C50 isn't supported.

My rule of thumb choosing access point/router is quite simple, it must be at least supported by 3rd party firmware such as

1. Gargoyle https://www.gargoyle-router.com/

2. Tomato / Advanced tomato https://advancedtomato.com/

3. DDWRT https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index

It doesn't have to be supported by all those 3, at least just one, that way if there's something wrong I can test it with other firmware, I've managed to make my older MR3420 working again with gargoyle after having same issue like yours (not only dropping connection it also freezes randomly).

You can check the 3rd party firmware websites and look for what devices that it's supported and also suit your budget.
