ram acting funny

im running my ram usually at 2933 mhz using docp but sometimes when i boot up the system it gives me an overclocking errror and i set it back to 2133mhz and then back to 2933mhz however this time time i was playing an overwatch game and i heard i sound come from my headphones and my screen went black and i restarted it and the same thing with the overclocking error plus now when i try changing back to 2133 and then to 2933 its not wanting to boot

no the ram is rated for 3000mhz and my motherboard can take up to 3200mhz

Did you make sure your RAM is firmly in its slot?

yeah thing is theyre rgb and led is always on and ive loaded them up in 2666mhz and im running a diagnostic

What system? CPU, RAM, Motherboard? Need some specs here.

Ryzen is not fully optimized fully for high-frequency RAM, it's an issue across the entire Ryzen lineup currently.

 

For reference, my RAM is rated for a speed of 3000MHz, when I first got my R7 1700 I tried to set my RAM to its rated speed of 3000MHz with XMP mode, and I had the same issue happen. This was without overclocking my CPU too, but I was able to get it set stable to 2933MHz. However, when I started to OC my R7 in order to get the highest frequency possible I had to dial back the memory clock again. I ended up on the CPU at 3.9GHz and the RAM at 2800MHz, although most people can only get like 2666MHz. That's my experience on the issue.

 

The Ryzen platform has not fully completely optimized for high-frequency RAM speeds like Intel, although they have come a long way since early days. If you are using XMP without an OC on your CPU try XMP settings at 2933MHz and adjust your DRAM voltage to 1.350V that should be stable. Keep in mind XMP is an Intel first feature and if you decide to OC your CPU you will have to go from XMP mode to Manual and I can pretty much guarantee you won't be able to set your RAM past 280MHz.

 

Hopefully, in the future this gets worked out with bios updates, but as I see it if you are just setting your ram to 2933MHz you need to increase DRAM voltage via XMP mode and if your CPU is overclocked you will have to further underclock the RAM.

Another thing that will help is updating the bios to the most recent version. With the Ryzen platform still being relatively new, many issues are fixed with each bios relesae. Bug fixes, system stability, and memory compatibility. I've also noticed many Ryzen boards have a 'cold boot' problem where if the system is completely powered down, [I think] the board forgets the proper dram voltage (probably 1.35v) and tries to post with only 1.2v, and obviously can't so it fails. I also think some boards have a dram boot voltage that can be manually adjusted, I've just not looked into it too deeply as my board doesn't have it.

if i set the voltage to 1.350v will it stay like that all the time? and ive heard that you can brick your motherboard while updating its bios

It can if your PC suddenly has a loss of power during the update process, but it's a fairly simple process now. Even a caveman can do it.

DOCP will be the same thing, I manually set my voltage to 1.350 V and it has been issue free since then

Have you ever updated your motherboard BIOS after purchasing it?
