i5 3330 to i7 3770k

Go to solution Solved by Trulop,

pretty solid CPU for 150$. Like you mentioned, if you upgraded to newer parts, it would be an entire platform change, which could get pricey depending on what MOBO, RAM, and CPU you chose to go with. It should more than tide you over for a good long while until a platform upgrade is actually needed.

Hi again everyone!
I recently found an i7 3770k for around 150USD and I was wondering if it would be worth getting this CPU instead of waiting for a Coffee Lake overhaul.
If I change my system to Coffee Lake I will have to change the Motherboard, RAM, CPU and it's going to be costly compared to simply getting the 3770k. But has the 3770k aged good? or for 150 USD is it not worth it?

Thank You in advance! :)

When overclocked a bit the 3770K still hangs and bangs with the best of them for gaming.

The 3770K is the better upgrade even if you can't overclock due to cost and the extra 2-3 years it will last until something better than CFL/Ryzen come out.

If you are only gaming, and already have an overclocked capable motherboard, you should just get it.

Benchmark has shown that games still dont really need more than 4 cores

Yeah it's worth it if you don't need more than a quad core. I upgrade from a 3570k to a 3770k a while back and it works great, was a much needed upgrade. It games just like all the newer CPU's. My i7 3770k is @4.2ghz paired with a GTX 1070.

But for me I'm actually going to upgrade again to Coffee Lake i7 8700k now that they have 6 core 12 thread as I really am seeing a need for it when trying to encode 1080p video with Handbrake. I don't have time to sit around all day and wait for my 1080p encode to finish on my old i7 3770k. So my 3770k will go into a 1u or 2u server case and join my reserve fleet of computers.

Thank You to everyone for the replies!
I will get the 3770k then as it seems like a very good deal.
