I am looking to build a rebuild my pc when i get home from deployment. I currently have a 4690k on a asus z97 pro gamer mb. I know i dont really need to upgrade the cpu yet, but my current mb is a used motherboard that i repaired (bent cpu pins). It worked for a while but now any amount of overclocking and my pc shuts down. I would just get a new motherboard but for the price of a decent z97 board, i figured id upgrade anyway. I plan on doing a ryzen build, but i dont know which series to go with(ryzen 3,5,7). Would i see any noticable differance from a 1600x or 1700x over the 4690k? I will be mainily gaming (AAA games 1440p) with some video editing and dabaling with autocad.

If you want to save a buck you can stick with an r5 1600 and give it a decent OC.

If budget isn't that much of an issue it could be worth spending a bit more for an r7 1700 and a decent cooler so you can OC that properly as well.

Also, if you go R7 i would recommend getting an X370 board, if you stick with an R5 a decent B350 board is enough.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

So don't get the X version of the RYZEN CPU. I have a 1700x (XFR) and the tech just isn't worth the premium.

Your two best options are a 1600 or 1700, both that include a really good air cooler, which I have overclocked with on my 2nd system, and for others so they work well.

In gaming the 1600 and 1700 are almost identical in terms of pure gaming. Since your going to just be doing sporadic editing, a 1600 would be great. But if you do a lot more creation based tasks, pay for the extra 2 cores.

Also I have a huge military family, thanks for your service.

I actually have the 1700 in my cart right now. I want to do a custom water cooling loop when i get back( no reason besides it looks cool...) so a stock cooler doesnt concern me, but i do want to play with come overclocking. I dont have alot of bandwith to work with being uderway(alot of sites dont work) but currently amazon is sold out of coffee lake. I plan on purchasing soon and im kinda impatient.
