i7-8700k or i7-7700k and which Graphics card to join it?

I wanna build a gaming rig for $1500 dollars provided I have case, audio, and monitor.

The internals from motherboard to RGB where my main concern is gaming and a bit of productivity.

Then go for the gtx 1080TI. You could try getting a i7 8700K in there but the motherboards are expensive.

8700k, the 7700K is an I3 now lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I'm going to throw in the i5-8400 as an option, since for gaming it can get close to the i7-8700K at stock speeds. Unless you need 6 more threads to do work (which HyperThreading doesn't really boost performance all that much even with applications that can use it) or you really want overclocking, I'm finding that processor worth more bang for the buck.

 

Plus it's $189 USD. You're not losing much performance and you're spending at least half the price

But the i7 8700K will be more future proof right?

I would wait for the I5-8600k to drop, should be a very nice chip in price to performance.

Not really. Even if you overclock the i7-8700K, you're probably going to get at best 10-15% more performance out of it. That may buy you another Intel generation, but by the time most people upgrade (4+ years, give or take), it'll be a moot point.

If you're doing 4k or under 120fps 1440p you could go with ryzen and save some cash on the cpu/mobo side to use on a better gpu or something since you won't see any difference between ryzen and intel under those circumstances...
