What can a psu kill?

I recently got a broken computer from a friend. The psu had broken and taken the motherboard and ram with it, and I don't know if the cpu is dead too because I don't have another lga 1155 motherboard.

1. How likely is it that the cpu is dead? Do psus often damage cpus?

2. Is there a shop that I can take the cpu to to get it tested?

3. The cpu is a i5 3470. Is it worth buying a used lga 1155 motherboard on ebay even if I don't know if the cpu works?

PSU can kill everything that it's plugged into, it can kill the whole PC if it's that screwed up

It can kill literally everything.

Last time my PSU died it killed the motherboard, CPU, and hard drives.

It's always possible that it also kills the GPUs and ram and fans and anything else.

It just depends on what part of the PSU fails.

Consider that your PSU is the "wall" between 120 or 240 V AC and some very delicate components that are used to receiving at most 12 V DC ;)

If that dam breaks, well.. it won't end well xD
