Overclocking fx8350 on a budget.

Ruy

I already have the 212 evo. Can the I overclock the 8350 to 5Ghz on it?

If not please suggest the best cooler under 100 dollars

Thank you

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it. :D

You're better off putting that money towards a Ryzen upgrade. Wouldn't be worth trying to get an FX chip to 5ghz, just settle on the highest voltage you can go, and see what your clock speed is there.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Do you know if your 8350 can hit 5ghz? --most can't. If it can, you'll still need a better cooler like a NH-D15.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

More importantly, which mainboard are you using? And nah fam, that 8350 will put out way too much heat for something as simple as a 212 under heavy OC.

Sorry for the lack of Information. The mobo is a M5A99X. I have the stock cooler fan blowing on the VRMS  and amother 140 blowing I'm the NB.

The pictures show my older mobo M5A97 R2 with the Hyper T4. I overclocked to 4.6 at 1.275 VID 1.3 VCORE. max temp 58°

i doubt it can reach 5GHz on that cooler... it needs more beefy one...

you can still push more by lowering the socket temp by adding a fan on the back plate (backside of the mobo)

because socket temp are the first to hit the limits on FX...

This is operating under such extreme diminishing returns already with the amount of cooling it requires. Investing money into the platform would be even worse.

Just ride it out until you can upgrade. Ryzen or Coffee lake won't require a watercooler.
