Disabling Hard Drive in Windows 10?

@NumLock21 @tekgeek1205 I don't know what windows does when i set it to spin down the drives after half an hour but it makes them much quieter and i love it.

I want that but without Windows randomly spinning the drives up when i'm not using them.

 

I thought about buying an enclosure the hard drives go in so i can put them on the floor away from me. Maybe that's my best bet but those things can get really pricey.

Might be a program accessing it. Try disabling search index and schedule defrag.

just type indexing in the start menu, and indexing options should popup. Select modify in the bottom left and uncheck the disk.

find the defrag settings the same way. Windows key, the type Defrag]

 

or type Optimize

They were unchecked by default.

Indexing was disabled on them by default and scheduled defrag only runs weekly so it shouldn't spin up my drives like every hour when i'm just browsing.

Well drive D: has my downloads and games and drive E: has backups of programs videos pictures phones everything really.

Every program is on my SSD so the only thing that could really access drive D: is Steam but i don't see a reason why would that need to access both drives.

 

Ps.: Windows does do backups weekly onto drive E

try tempraryly moving your downloads to your ssd and move them manualy as you need to, and close steam. If that fixed it, change one back and see if it come back.
