I want to connect my PC to my 1080p monitor. Which is better? HDMI 1.4 or 2.0? Does 2.0 offer something more?

2.0 has more bandwidth but it won't matter for you anyways,

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Well if you just go and grab any HDMI cable it will most likely be a 2.0 one.

2.0 has been standard since 2013 from what I can find.

Problem is that stuff like standards take a loooong time to get adopted. Hell my 1000 euros laptop from 2015 has HDMI 1.4 to put it in perspective, and I'm sure I've some high end laptops not so long ago not having 2.0.

For OP, what monitor are we talking about? There is no point in getting 2.0 if your monitor for instance has HDMI 1.4.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Just so people are aware, most HDMI 1.4 cables are actually also HDMI 2.0 cables (Generally, an HDMI "High Speed" cable). The cable itself is physically the same. Only the connectors/ports themselves need to support HDMI 2.0 to make it work.

But assuming 1080p at 60 Hz, you'd see no difference between the two.

Unless you're running your cable for long runs or in high noise areas, then cables certified to the High Speed ("1.4") cable spec might fail.

In these cases you'll want a Premium High Speed ("2.0" cable) certified cable.

Think you meant "if" rather than "unless", but yes :)

They're the same at 1080p. HDMI 2.0 has the ability to driver higher resolution displays, but that capability isn't being used if you're only on a 1080p screen, so HDMI 1.4 is just as good.

Indeed, longer runs for HDMI can be a challenge.
