I think the 1060 3GB is better so if you can you should get it. You might be able to get it cheaper on eBay.

Yeah, the 970 is plenty of power for 1080p and has an extra .5GB VRAM edge over the 1060. Plus it's $30 cheaper, and you can use the $30 to get more RAM or something. (assuming you use DDR3 and buy used)

All 4GB are theoretically usable, but 0.5 of them is much slower than the rest. Something like 4X slower IIRC.

its raw performance is better but the 0.5gb is pratically useless but is still there

like using iGPU with 4gb of ram, like 512mb is gone because iGPU vram but there's still 4gb, just 3.5gb usable
