Except that the CX series is a much more up-to-date platform whereas the M12II is quite old and outdated.

And I wouldn't fault anyone for buying a modern gray-label CX, but the M12II and its older guts have held on for this long for a very good reason: the thing is engineered like a tank but priced like a midsize sedan.

Most PSUs last quite a long time, the fact that there are M12II's running doesn't mean much of anything. And still, the internals/design is still far from being comparable to a modern PSU.

I was referring more to the M12II line being around and on sale for so long, and being an excellent buy for all that time.

 

Regardless, some people value modularity over having a newer platform. I use multiple Seasonic M12II units and have zero complaints, and I used a Corsair CX550M with zero complaints. They're both spectacular units, and I'd readily recommend either platform to anyone.
