Razer Blade heat troubles

good advice above mostly. All you can really do is 

1. repaste with something like gelid gc extreme, which if you do this, mine as well put new thermal pads on as well such as fujipoly ultra extreme.

2. undervolting-perhaps the simplest method to try first. throttlestop works quite well for this and you can set it to start with windows through "task scheduler". the 6700hq should have no problem with -125mV offset.

thats about it. unless you want lower temps at the cost of lower performance in which case you could change window power plan settings to utilize less than 100% max cpu performance, which would basically just disable the turbo boost.

Hello all, I am abroad this semester and using my Razer Blade, 6700hq and 970m. I've never used a laptop for gaming before and today I was running Total War Warhammer at 1080p on medium setting and my temps hit 100c on the cpu. I've linked my hw monitor resluts. Any ideas on getting this under control?

What did you expect you live in Colorado and you own a laptop that has severe thermal issues.

100 degrees is actullay relatively normal for this laptop and there's not much you can do to fix it

most you can do is clean it, make a more aggressive fan curve if the fan isn't already, and replace the thermal compound with IC diamond if it's out of warranty. 

Keep in mind these things clog like crazy, especially if you have pets. Cat hair+ ultra thin laptops= death 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I would recommend undervolting the cpu. Skylake CPUs do it quite well.

I would recommend selling that piece of garbage while you can. Razer decided to not engineer cooling for the blade lineup

Just keeping this here as a yep, that sounds about the same as my 2015 Blade with a 4720hq

I'd suggest undervolting and underclocking, as it brought my chip down to 85 degrees

What would the best way to under-volt be with this? I understand thermals aren't ideal with this but it fits my very specific needs while I'm abroad and seeing as getting anything shipped here takes at least two months its what I will be using.

I've been told never to use IC Diamond on dies because the diamonds in the paste can damage the die.

 

On laptops, I've had good results with coolabratory liquid ultra, keeping a 4th gen i7 and 960m cooled by a single fan with very very low noise.

Yes don't use it for gaming.

 

Serious though Razer laptops are notorious for their thermal throttling, you could get it raised and put a normal fan on full speed throwing cold wind directly on its heatsink exhaustor.

I don't know what everyone would consider the "best" way to do it, however I use XTU (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility).

good advice above mostly. All you can really do is 

1. repaste with something like gelid gc extreme, which if you do this, mine as well put new thermal pads on as well such as fujipoly ultra extreme.

2. undervolting-perhaps the simplest method to try first. throttlestop works quite well for this and you can set it to start with windows through "task scheduler". the 6700hq should have no problem with -125mV offset.

thats about it. unless you want lower temps at the cost of lower performance in which case you could change window power plan settings to utilize less than 100% max cpu performance, which would basically just disable the turbo boost.

Congrats on your hundredth post! Well you can't really deny that Razer has thermal issues in their laptops.

Thanks so much the undervolting worked like a charm still seeing good fps and clock speeds without exceeding 89c!
