MacBook Pro 2011 not recognizing new internal HDD in Disk Utility?

So my Macbook Pro jus crashed yesterday. I restarted and was greeted by the blinking folder with a question mark which means it couldn't find a drive to boot off of.

 

I restarted into the recovery screen. Option to re-select boot drive not there. So I open disk utility and notice that the HDD isn't in the left pane. So I was like "ok, it's been six years, hdd is broken".

 

Bought a new internal HDD today. Swapped it in. Boot into internet recovery and then select disk utility expecting to format the new HDD, but it's not in the left pane! My laptop doesn't recognize the old HDD or the new one!

 

I did SMC reset and PRAM/NVRAM reset, but it didn't help.

 

I really hope the SATA cable isn't broken...

Boot the computer while holding down cmd+r and format the hdd in that disk utility UNMOUNTED and reinstall os x

Try using the PSU Tier List! 

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

i would go in with partedmagic, see what gparted thinks of that drive, give it a new GPT and then boot back into OSX recovery, if it still cant see it, might be broken SATA :(

but of course that will be instantly obvious if linux cant see that drive

I'm already using the recovery interface disk utility, the new HDD does not show up.

What is partedmagic, some linux based thing?

Could be a connection problem to the motherboard or the drive

Try using the PSU Tier List!
