I bought some M50x's a few months ago and I love them. they're pretty comfortable, but you do have to break them in.

I also recommend replacing the stock pads with something a little bit thicker, because I found my ears to scrape up against the insides.

I was thinking of getting hm5 pads, only thing is, how to install? Also forgot to mention, i like a fair bit of punchy bass

I used M30's for years. Great headphones. I'm sure the M50x's would be great, or even the M40's.

Personally for travel I prefer IEM's though.

I use M40x's and I love them. My only concern for you would be that the headband actually stretched out too much for me in the about 15 months I've had them, to the point where they're getting close to sliding off my head if I tilt it back really far. Not a problem for me because I just use them sitting at my desk, but something to consider. However keep in mind that I've used these VERY heavily (probably an average of 3 hours a day every day for the last 15 months) and also the headband on the M50x's might be better quality, not sure.

Lenovo Ideapad 720s 14 inch ------ One day I'll have a desktop again...

The sound signature on the M50x's is U/V shaped, so there is a dip in vocals/treble.

Lows and highs matter more to me than mids. Female vocals are higher pitched, and i like the bass

Yeah, it should be noted I have a small head so you'll probably be fine.

I'm probably a bad person to ask this because I run a mix of Earpods (if I don't want sound isolation because yes that is a reason), AudioTechnica ATH-CKX5iS that I used for running (but then switched to BT earphones because listening to wire waggle is totally fun /s), and some Sony noise canceling earphones that I bought with a laptop from Dell many years ago.

I'm just going to stick to my standby response: something from Sennheiser.

I got nothing. :c

If I were to go find me some high quality earbuds though, I'd look at http://thewirecutter.com/leaderboard/headphones/ or https://www.whathifi.com/best-buys/headphones/best-in-ear-headphones to get a starting point.

Or just see what I can get at Best Buy because it's 10 minutes away.

Not off the top of my head. I like bass, so Beats have actually been some of my favorite. They usually go on sale ridiculously cheap during Black Friday too. Just make sure it has a tangle free cord, and that it isn't fabric based. I've always had issues with the cable self destructing unless it's just rubber.

I've heard great things about the Hisoundaudio Wooduo 2. RHA is supposed to have some nice units, I own one but haven't used it yet.

Probably the best IEMs in your budget would be Vsonic GR07, they have a very balanced sound with a lot of detail and you can get a version with a detachable cable and remember to get a small case for them or something like that, it is going to help a lot with their lifespan, they might even come with one, not 100% sure.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.
