After installing my AMD fx 8350 CPU I've been experiencing frame drops in almost every game. It goes from 80-100 (depending on the game) to 1-15. This occurs randomly but always seems to happen at critical points in the game (doesn't everything lol). Even on lowest settings the frame drops still happen

I have had this problem for about 9 months and now I'm fed up. There's nothing I can seem to do to fix it. I've overclocked, underclocked and tried many times with friends who know much more about computers than I do. I'm suspecting it's my CPU but I'm not sure. I got an SSD since then and happens on every game that takes even a little bit of power to run. This excludes LoL, side-scrolling and other easy to run types of games.

When looking at task manager when this happens, the CPU load goes down to about 20% from the 60 or 80 percent it was at.

Thank for the help!

Update:

Just changed some power settings in the BIOS, time to play some games and see what happens

SOLVED!!!!!!!!

I needed to update the BIOS and after that everything was solved!!

I hope someone with the same problem gets it solved with this solution

new fx 8350??? and you have 970's in sli????? your cpu is a HUGE bottlneck. Getting a 7th gen intel processor would nix all of your fps problems.

The thing is, the same games were doing fine with my fx 6300 and the frames drop even on lowest settings of these games.

That's a motherboard using the 970 chipset. He has a 1070.

Sorry to burst your bubble, the FX 8350 isn't new at all. It's an old CPU and its crap. Like @HZapperz Mentioned, its bottlenecking your GPU.

For strictly gaming intel wins without a doubt. But if your going to be streaming and or video editing ryzen is the way to go. I have a ryzen system myself so dont think im being biased.

did you disable c6 states and any power saving features? you could try resolution timer before running a game could be core parking.

I haven't tried that or know what that is, but ill look it up and try

FX6300 to FX8350 makes no difference in games.

FX8350 bottlenecks even GTX 1060 6GB in almost all games, not to mention the GTX 1070. The FPS drops are caused mainly because of your CPU (how much really depends on a game you play).

That said, I don't think the 1-15FPS drops are mainly the CPU issue. There may be something else causing an FPS hog. Try to change all power plans to max performance.

No that is done in windows power features. Did you try capping your framerate to 60 fps and see if it helps? Sometimes what happens is that both the cpu and the gpu try to push out as many frames as possible. If the cpu comes to 100% it causes the sudden framedrops you mention, caping the framerate could help prevent those 100% peaks

The drops are still happening and yeah I do cap at 60 on some games. Another thing to mention is that everything on my computer slows down including voice chat on discord and youtube vids, not just the game.

Try disabling realtek audio in device manager and try it out

hehe now I don't have audio for my headphones, ill try and figure that out xD

Update:

The frame drops still happen even after the power settings change and the audio.

I'll probably just have to return the CPU and get a new one but thanks for all the help!
