Bottleneck?

SuperiorSpidey

Greetings,

I'm building a new gaming rig and my current main objective is running games at 1080p high/ultra presets. The CPU I'll buy is either Ryzen 7 1700 or Ryzen 7 1700x, however, I'm not determined on the GPU selection. I've read that nVidia is launching her new generation GPUs on 2018, so I was planning to buy a low-end GPU at the moment and go for the big dogs afterwards. My main concern, though, is the possibility of the 750ti bottlenecking either CPU. Do you believe that I will be able to accomplish gaming at 1080p high/ultra presets?

The 750ti at the time was a great card for 1080p gaming; now however it's definitely starting to show it's age.  If you want a great GPU for 1080p gaming, you can't go wrong with the GTX 1060/RX 580 (if you can find one at a decent price).

"Hyper Demon" Build:

Case: NZXT H440 Hyper Beast.  CPU: AMD R9 3900x (cooled by a KrakeX62).  GPU: AMD XFX RX 6900XT Merc 319 Black.  RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 32GB ram @3600mhz.  Mobo: Asus Crosshair VI hero. PSU: Corsair RM850x.  Boot drive: Samsung 960 evo 500gb nvme ssd.  Game storage: Samsung 860 evo 1TB SATA SSD.  Bulk storage: WD Black 2TB.

Yes, the 750 Ti will bottleneck the CPU, but that's generally what you want.  People shy away from CPU bottlenecks in favour of GPU bottlenecks generally speaking, which is what that would be.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

A 750ti is way too low end to bottleneck a new Ryzen.

your pc will be gpu limited, modern AAA games won't run high/ultra 1080p at bearable fps on a 750ti, personal experience a 1070 will hit most games 60+fps maxed graphics, a few don't with my OC'd 7700k, like wildlands and the division usually running in the 50s, but a 750ti should at least have things working if you're willing to deal with low/med settings in more demanding games

By the time, the next gen GPUs launch, I will sell whatever GPU I buy. So, I dont want to purchase a 300 euros GPU (that's 1060's valuation in Greece), and afterwards sell it for 150-200 euros. The release date, of the Volta architecture GPUs, is estimated to be in the first months of 2018, so I won't be using, whatever graphics card I will buy now, for long. I met a person which is selling a GTX 750ti in exchange of 80 euros, so I though that I was a great deal, especially considering the fact that I may sell it for 40-50 euros, having much smaller loss than the contingency of purchasing either a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070.

Why not? that's a whole year of gaming for $100...

Just to clarify, your rig, a 7700K with a 1070 can not run new AAA titles in Ultra higher than just above 60 FPS?

I have a 6500-nonK with a 1070 and can run new AAA games with loads of FPS in Ultra 1080 way above 60, as I rather have prettier graphics I scale it to 4K and display it in 1080p on my screen and then I hit about 60 FPS in AAA titles, just like you. I play mainly GTA V, Ghost Reacon WildLands, PUBG and Sniper Elite 4.

The next generation of PC parts are always around the corner. Nvidia already said that they don't plan on releasing Volta to consumers any time soon. My rule of thumb is that unless a product has at least an announcement date already you shouldn't wait for it.

Most games I can run 1080p maxed settings 60+ fps, some games fall short of that, usually not by much, but I regularly see screen tearing in some games, like wildlands and to a lesser extent the division. I realize I forgot to mention the first half of the top line was specifically about the 750ti... I'll edit it

It seems like there is a "tradition" of releasing next gen GPUs every 1-2 years, but that's honestly a laughable rationale, so you're right. Would you mind providing me with the link, where Nvidia announces the launch delay of Volta GPUs?

Well, you're probably right on that, however, Nvidia may release their new GPUs in 4-5 months. In the worst case scenario (belated launch of the Volta GPUs), I will sell the 750ti and buy a better GPU. (I know that's stupid, but I'm hoping for a relatively early release date for the next gen GPUs)

I want to apologize for my mediocre, at best, English, however, it's not my native language.

I would wait for Vega 11 to see if prices normalize then unless you need it now then grab a 1060 6GB or 1070 if the prices is fine or by a miracle find a Vega 56 for good price! :)
