Upgrading 290X Lightning to..?

How's it going everybody, 

 

I've been itching to upgrade my 290X lightning for the past few months but haven't because I can't seem to make up my mind. 

 

My idea was maybe get vega 64 if the price drops to its msrp and keep my 144hz freesync monitor. 

 

My friends idea was to get a used 980Ti or maybe a 1080 and then get a g-sync monitor.  

 

I would like your opinions, what do you guys think would be the smartest idea?

290x is a solid card sell it to miners for a good buck before ethernum crashes and buy a better gpu when the prices are normal i managed to sell my 380 for above msrp

That is true and its playing them fine. 

 

I guess I will hold off from upgrading for now!

Obviously don't upgrade unless you actually need to, but if you do, I'd try to stick to the AMD ecosystem since you've already invested in the monitor as well, and switching that out as well would be even more expensive, not to mention gsync is generally more expensive than any freesync counterpart

Hold it until next gen of AMD cards... maybe they won't be overpriced and way too power hungry?

That's one reason why I haven't switched over. It would probably cost me around $800 or more to switch.

vega 56 is not 64 is out of the most efficient area of the architecture to try and compete with the 1080

when they get one thing right they get the other thing wrong they got CPUs right after a long ass time but fucked up the GPUs

That would be a nice upgrade but also a very costly one.

Keep it until Navi. (Vega 11 is a maybe to but not sure its worth it.)
