Which cpu is a better upgrade?

I got an i3-4150 cpu and a h97 mobo?

Should i ditch this and buy a used i7 3770 and an itx mobo for $140+ or 

buy an i5 4690k for the same price?

3770 is a beast still, but you'll be stepping back a generation.

I'd say that you should look for either the 4790 or 4770 instead.

i would keep the motherboard, sell the i3 CPU and try to get a i7-4770, i7-4790 or xeon E3-1231-V3
