Can I overclock my rx 480 if it doesnt support overclock?

iliaslef
Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

There is no such thing "support overclock" when comes to GPUs any overclocks just get a reliable overclocking tool such as MSi Afterburner or EVGA Precision X

So I have an xfx rx 480 4gb and in the radeon's settings in the gaming tab you can actually use almost everything like temperatures voltage frequence and all.. But is that really possible? I didn't tried it yet because I don't know how to overclock yet but my question is can you really overclock a gpu that doesn't support overclock???

That gpu should support overclocking anyway.

Try MSI Afterburner when you do decide to OC it.

The RX 480 does support overclocking, not sure why you think it doesn't.

Well there was different products of XFX Radeon RX 480 4GB and XFX Radeon RX 480 4GB OC (and that was more expensive) so obviously I thought that this one doesn't oc and now I feel like an idiot xD Thanks guys anyway!!

That just means its slightly overclocked out of the box.

It honestly isn't worth buying overclock models, as the non OC models can(most of the time) easily match and go higher clock speeds than the OC versions.

for overclocking performance alone, no but, for better build quality, cooling, power delivery and noise levels etc higher end models are better. if you're liquid cooling just use reference though

Most OC models tend to have the same cooling and power delivery though, with an extra +50 to 100(just an example) on the clock speed. I guess they're for people who really don't feel confident OC'ing themselves.

JayzTwoCents has a very good video on how to use MSI Afterburner.

sure all the basic, lower end 'OC' models are more or less the same, i'm talking more of your triple fan solutions, beefier heatsinks etc

Yeah the very "high end" ones like Strix OC and the EVGA OC cards etc. I get what you mean :P
