Messed up aspect ratios, and DSR not working

Hello,

Today i have swapped the connection on my main oled monitor to HDMI 2.1 since i wanted to utilize 12bit at 175hz

The display im using are:

1: MSI MAG 341CQP - HDMI 2.1

2: Gigabyte G34wqc - DisplayPort 1.4a

When i made the switch to HDMI the aspect ratio in games is messed up, i can no longer get proper fullscreen 21:9 at 3440x1440

3440x1440 is locked to 16:9 ratio and gets awfull letterboxing in fullscreen games, when i choose windowed or bordeless it scales properly as 21:9 image

Scaling in NVCP is turned off, earlier when using DP it was set to scaling to "proportions" done by the monitor, when i set that on HDMI it get just black bars on the sides the same as i would be running 2560x1440.

Aditionally, the DSR does not work, none of the resolutions show up in the settings.

Does anyone have idea how to fix this ?

My first suspicion would be the HDMI cable you're using not supporting the required bandwidth for 3440 x 1440 x 175 Hz x 10 bpc

Not sure where 12 bit comes from, this is a 10 bit panel. I assume it has a 12 bit LUT.

@Eigenvektor

It works on 7680x4320 at 60hz, so the cable is not the issue, it has the bandwith to support it.
I've used DDU and wiped all the setings.

The result is 3440x1440 squashed into 16:9 ratio without letterboxing.
To highlight, this issue is happening only in fullscreen, borderless/windowed works fine so that also dismisses issue with cable bandwith.

To better show this.
The only difference between these 2 is borderless vs fullscreen, nothing else is changed anywhere.

What kind of resolution is that supposed to be?

DSR is not something that is transmitted over the cable. The GPU calculates with a higher resolution internally, but the image that goes over the cable would still be at the monitor's resolution.

3440x1440 @ 60Hz, 8bpc = 7.5 Gbps

3440x1440 @ 175 Hz, 10 bpc = 29 Gbps

So almost 4 times the bandwidth requirement

I am aware of that, and that was the reason i bought 2.1 HDMI cable that is sure to run it, i have 2 different 2.1 HDMI cables and issue is preset on both of them, bought another longer one [3 meters] just for the PC to route the cables nicely, the problem is not the cable/s.
I could do 144hz 10bpc via DP 1.4a but i did not want to drop down the refresh rate from 175hz to do so.

DSR is kinda secondary issue, my main one is that now its squashing 3440x1440 into 16:9 for any game that runs in fullscreen.

What even adds up to the oddness, is when loading up The Finals, when set to fullscreen, the game initialy loads up in proper aspect ratio, but at one point it squashes it down back to 16:9

If the monitor supports DSC, then DP 1.4a should be able to do it.

What I mean is, how did you test that the cable supports it? Neither of your monitors is 8K.

@Eigenvektor

The DSR values are not correct, but i am able to choose 8k as per 1st post in the screenshots, all DSR factors beside that are messed up, none of them are proper.

I can make it only 144hz at 10bpc, which i do not want to as i would be leaving out a tad higher refresh rate which is usefull for FPS games.

As I said above using DSR does not increase the data that is transmitted to the monitor. That is only internally in the GPU.

So you haven't actually tested the cable with anything more than 3440x1440 @60 Hz. Meaning it could still be the cables.

Cables being marketed as HDMI 2.1 doesn't really mean anything. Technically cables don't have a version, they have a maximum supported bandwidth.

If it was the cable how come borderless or windowed works properly, it makes no sense to assume its cable as it would not work properly anywhere else (yt, movies even desktop).

The same cable is running on my friends Samsung QE85QN800C.

Its not the cables...

Borderless/Windowed uses the resolution and refresh rate of your desktop. Are you saying that works at 175 Hz, 10 bpc?

If you switch to full screen the game takes control and will run at whatever refresh rate you've picked there.

So just to be clear you can use full refresh rate and color depths in desktop mode but not in full screen games, or is the desktop running at 60 Hz or reduced color depth instead?

At no point in any of the posts i have mentioned using 3440x1440 at 60hz, as from the very first post, my issue is aspect ratio not being correct, not refresh rate, artifact or anything else, only the aspect ratio is messed up when using HDMI connection when running fullscreen apps [the game does not matter, it does it in all where its set to fullscreen].

Upon further looking around i've noticed that NVCP is showing connection as HDMI - HDTV, and i am clearly not using a TV but a 21:9 PC screen.

Even with DSR disabled i have option to choose 4k resolution in both NVCP and windows...

Its like both windows and nvidia are recognizing it as TV, which could explain forcing it to 16:9 but simply why on earth would it do that...

To exclude some questions that might come up.

HDMI 2.1 in monitor setting is and was set to PC as in the uncluded picture.

The drivers for the monitor are installed.

The cables are certified to run at full 2.1 HDMI speeds and work on devices that requires them properly.
