Hello, I was looking at subscribing to Floatplane and was wondering what significant differences there are between the levels of payment? I really am only willing to get the base subscription, but at the same time, I would like to be sure that I am not going to lose access to any big parts of Floatplane. I am aware that things like 4k videos might only be available to higher subscriptions, but are there any other large drawbacks to the base subscription? Thank you for the information.

As far as I know, there is only 1 Floatplane Club subscription and three different contributor levels (which have FPC included, Bronze, Silver and Gold). The differences between these contributor levels is, as far as I know right now, what special sub forums you can access.

But of course I am not LTT/LMG, so I don't know if they will add anything to any one of these ranks in the future.

Ok, thank you, I had not quite grasped the difference between the Floatplane subscription and contributor levels.

Quote from Gold subscription level:

Spoiler

The "Gold Contributor" forum membership is $25/month or $250/year and grants the following privileges:

- Access to the Gold, Silver, and Bronze sub-forums (we may post in there from time to time, but there probably won't be anything super exclusive)
(...)
- Gold-tier discounted prices on other items in the Linus Tech Tips store
- ** placeholder for potential future benefits **

- Membership to the Floatplane Club with early access to Linus Media Group videos

You may have noticed that these "perks" won't affect things very much. This is intentional. We want everyone to enjoy our content and have a great experience on our website.

Silver and Bronze subscriptions have similar descriptions. The only things you're getting extra, at the moment, with any of the subscription is its relevant discount and access to more or less sub forums.

Floatplane subscribers and Contributors all get access to the Floatplane videos, and at the moment there's no difference in quality, timing or anything else between the groups - they all get identical Floatplane access. The contributors have been around since before Floatplane launched, but don't offer much more - they are mainly a way to donate some money to LMG. The contributors get no ads on the forum (Floatplane subscribers don't get ads on the videos, but the amazon/etc ad in the top right of the site is still there), and also access to the exclusive contributor sections, but there's not really much there.

If you're only interested in Floatplane videos, the Floatplane Club subscription is right for you, but if you want to support LMG a bit more, you're welcome to become a contributor.
