Been having random driver crashes during games (Nvidia) pc blue screens and random sound loops. Sometimes I have to press he on button 5 times to turn it on. Other random gpu things. It crashes before, I turned it on and it said please connect pcie cables for this graphics card

Im guessing it’s the psu and not mobo?

psu is cougar 1000w v3 2 years old

----------------------------

Hey guys,
My Cougar CMX1000v3 is failing so I need to get a new PSU.
I know it's quite low quality and has two 12v rails which is bad? I think.

Anyway, I'm looking at a Seasonic g750w Gold atm but I need to know if that's going to be enough.
Specs:
6700k @ stock
32gb 2400mhz
z170-ar asus mobo
2 x gtx 980 g1 gaming @ stock
h80i @ 9~ sp and af 120 case fans

Would a 750w gold be enough?
Thanks everyone!

I would get a different model and see if that works.

If it does, rma the old one.

If it does not, send the new one back to the etailer and put the old one back in.

Can't believe I didn't think of that, I'll do that for sure.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I've got a 6700k + two 980's in SLI

Which PSU should I go for?

Would a 750w gold psu be good enough?

60+ amps on 12v rail

750w is fine if you run the gpus in a matter where they don't consume tons of power (ie 80% power limit), cos if you are overclocking them or they are beefy custom board models its really cutting it close.

850w is where id want to be for SLI, cos id have aggressive overclocks on the CPU and GPUs.

Turn off your overclock. I don't see how a PSU would cause your system to hang, if it was a PSU issue, the computer would be restarting or just turning off.

If that doesn't help, uninstall your GPU drivers and install an older driver, that doesn't help, try one GPU at a time, one might be dying/dead.

Nothing is overclocked

Usually it restarts itself or turns off. This time it sound looped

Everything kinda points to PSU :/

Read updated post.

Also, what is it telling you on the blue screens.

I don't think it is a PSU issue.

Hmm what makes you say that?
The blue screens were related to IRQL Driver not less or equal and another driver issue related to nvdklmk.sys or w/e, something about page something

I've tried as far back as March drivers, and all the way through till now. I've fresh installed Windows and installed latest drivers about 400 times.

Usually I lose signal during load but the PC is still on. I started getting CPU led on mobo as well, so I have no fking idea what's causing it

Also when I boot sometimes I get a white line across the monitor after the bios screen (when Windows logo is meant to appear)

All of this shit started happening after to latest Windows but that can't be related? I fresh installed

Test one GPU at a time, one could be dying, which is causing the issues.

Funny you say that, my top card is new because the last one exploded and spat a 6 inch flame out the back of the case. The bottom card which is the same age as the old one when it blew is probably the one.

What can cause it to die? Bad power?

A short, a VRM giving up, could be a lot of things.

If there was fire in your computer, that could have meant the other GPU was damaged to.

It was a while ago now almost a year

anyway could this be related to pc not turning on correctly? Like pressing power button 5 times sometimes it doesnt boot at all

The Seasonic G series can sometimes be overpriced compared to other units. The new Seasonic Focus Gold might be around the same price and they have a 10 year warranty.

What online store are you buying from ?

The Corsair RMx 750W is only $3 more than the Seasonic G and is a better unit.

http://www.mwave.com.au/product/corsair-rm750x-750w-80-plus-gold-full-modular-power-supply-ab67520

There is also the EVGA G2 750W but it is showing as out of stock.

Took the motherboard out of the case now none of the led's are lighting up on the motherboard. No post no signal nothing is happening. Doesn't explain not getting power to the GPU's though. So could it be PSU AND mobo fucked? or?
