Thermal paste lefovers?

Im installing my new water cooler and i noticed when i cleaned the old thermal paste theres some leftovers on the side of the cpu i cant reach to clean and i dont want to take the cpu off and mess with the pins is leaving the the lefovers dangerous?

no. what CPU is it, if the pins are on the mobo and not the CPU it should be pretty easy to clean and handle.

It isn't dangerous but depending on the number of times you apply TIM you can get it packing up also, i am not sure how different TIMs react with one another under the heat of the CPU.

 

Why didn't you use Q-tips with isopropyl alcohol on the swab, that should get off the most.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I don't think the thermal residue is a problem unless it's conductive (containing metals) because if it is, it could cause a short on the mobo.

you could also just release the retention arm, without removing the cpu, it should be easier to clean.
