So I have an I7 6700k and today I tried streaming to youtube for the first time via nvidia shadowplay. I was using ultra settings(1080p 60fps and 9 Mbps bitrate) and after an hour of streaming the broadcast was ended and I got an error message from shadowplay saying Broadcasting has stopped. Try Reducing your quality settings. Or something like that. Can my cpu not handle streaming ?!!?!?!?! I was streaming GTA V btw.

GTA is really hard on the CPU, and the 6700k is not ideal for streaming. Try streaming an easier game like CSGO

But I don't really play CSGO. Maybe I should lower the bitrate or something?

ShadowPLay or NVIDIA Stream or whatever it is called is using h.264 NVENC which has almost no performance impact on your gameplay but you need high bitrates to maintain good quality.

If you want to use CPU for streaming you need to use x264 with OBS Studio which doesn't need as high bitrates but you won't be able to stream 1080p at 60FPS with that CPU.

As an owner of 6700k I can confirm, that the highest you can stream with it (if OCed, mine is to 4.7ghz) is around 720p60 or 1080p30

And up to.. I wanna say 6mbps max. Any higher and it WILL drop frames. You have to tweak it if you want good streaming performance with this CPU.

Oh and I also happen have a gtx 1070. If I were you, I'd use Nvidia share for streaming. At sth like 6mbps 720p60

So basically the high setting on nvidia share. But I cant believe that it can't handle 1080p...

What if I did 1080p 60fps at 6mbps? Right now its set to the ultra option which is 1080p 60fps but at 9Mbps.

You got me wrong there. It can handle 1080p. But probably not 60fps. Try 1080p60 at 5-6mbps and see if you still drop frames. And if the picture quality is good at the viewer's side. Lowering bitrate will improve encoding but since h.264 need high bitrate, I don't know how the quality will scail, if you lower the bitrate.

Try playing around with settings. See what works best. At the end of the day, you want the best possible experience for the viewer. And it doesn't need to be high fps. It just needs to be consistent. There's nothing more annoying than a laggy stream

The problem is... I can tweak it and stuff but when my viewers are watching and I randomly stop streaming, thats a problem. So how do I tweak without my viewers noticing...

You tweak, start the stream, check quality, stop the stream, adjust settings again if needed, start stream again..

Tweak settings until satisfied and then do a stream. People will understand.

But the thing is I was running at max setting in nvidia share for about an hour with no problems and suddenly the broadcast stopped... So its going to take hours of streaming to see if my stream is stable... Also im streaming to youtube if that matters.

Just use OBS Studio and use the NVENC and set it up for 1080p 60FPS 9000bitrate

I know, that's why I am suggesting to try OBS instead of NVIDIA share, maybe the issue are not the settings but the software
