Why is it this slow?

So i have 120 download and 10-15 upload but on google chrome its downloading a file at like 0.2 - 0.3 mbps, why the hell is it this slow? speedtest shows my internet is perfectly fine this screenshot is current while downloading

It depends on the server you're downloading from, among other things.

 

Speedtest is only useful for getting the best case scenario.

so how can i make google chrome not be so slow? if im payin this much for good internet i should atleast be getting it

try a different browser. Otherwise the thing you are downloading can't handle your speeds

yeah, your PC is no issue. I mean the source you're downloading from, like gitub. they slow stuff down a lot

its pretty slow with most things i download, i dont think the site is the issue.

i would rather not use a different browser tbh, i only like chrome and have everything signed in already. is there something i can change to make it faster or if there is a limit or something?

Okay, so, welcome to the world of IT. You've just become a technician.

 

Step one: Eliminate variables

 

How do you do this? By testing FF, Opera, IE/Edge, etc.

 

Frankly, diagnosing the issue means sometimes you have to use a browser you don't like using.

 

Go try IE/Edge, and also download Firefox and try that.

 

Tell us the results.

Even if it were, that'd still be pretty slow. 0.3 MB/s is roughly 300 KB/s. 300 KB/s converted into Mbps is around 37 Mbps. Not terrible, but not great for 120 Mbps connection.

You know that doesn't show your speed, right?

 

You need to open the Download Manager (Ctrl + J, or use the Menu to select "Downloads") to show full details.

i just tested edge and its going at 158 kbps

158 Kbps or 158 KB/s.

 

Kbps = Kilobits per second

KB/s = Kilobytes per second

 

The difference is extremely important in this context.
