How to unlock voltage control on mobile GPUs? (8xx, 9xx series)

Basically what the title says

 

I have a gtx 860M on my laptop.. temps are not too good, even after repasting. would need to open the bottom or sth to allow more air in. 

I was wondering if there is any way to unlock voltage.

Even if you somehow unlocked voltage, I dont think you can undervolt Nvidia GPUs. The only option is to lower the power limit.

I can't. It's locked as well..

Do you know how to unlock any of that stuff?

in afterburner's settings there are 4 boxes to tick. "enable hardware control and monitoring", "enable low-level IO driver", "unlock voltage control" and "unlock voltage monitoring"

I know. I already tried that, and it didn't work.. 

I know how things work in general. It seems that all advanced options are blocked in the bios.

In that case you are out of luck. Maybe underclock the card? The lock can be bypassed by flashing a cracked VBIOS, but that might brick it so dont try on a card without a BIOS switch.

Svet over on the MSI forums has a utility for modifying mobile cards at the vBIOS level. Does require a donation to get access though.

I figured it'd be sth like that yeah. Thanks anyway. I'd probably buy it, but I don't have a credit card (that sweet european student life)
