Reliable 650 W PSU

Go to solution Solved by LordofSavages,

Corsair RMx if you want to save a little bit. EVGA G2 for a cheaper option than the G3. G3 for the latest and greatest

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a good 650 W PSU since apparently my Corsair VS650 is a ticking timebomb that should be cleansed from this earth. I have been looking at an EVGA 210-GQ-0650-V2 but maybe there is something better in the same price range?

Wanting to power an overclocked r7 1700 and a GTX 970 (and the sooner or later coming upgrade), so 650W should be plenty.

Thanks in advance

If you haven't looked at the PSU Tier List, it may help you.

And yes, your PSU is listed as Tier 6. I wouldn't say the worst- but it's risking your other components.

As for me, My PSU effectively exploded - shooting sparks and smoke. For the love of me, I can't remember what brand it was though.

Fan Comparisons          F@H          PCPartPicker         Analysis of Market Trends (Coming soon? Never? Who knows!)

Designing a mITX case. Working on aluminum prototypes.

Open for intern / part-time. Good at maths, CAD and airflow stuff. Dabbled with Python.

Please fill out this form! It helps a ton! https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/841400-the-poll-to-end-all-polls-poll/

personal recomendation are the G2/G3 PSUs from EVGA, quiet and good performance. mine came cheap at $60ish too for a 650 G2

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

that does seem awfully cheap, in germany the price seems to hover more around 120 € for those. That said, it's listed as T1 and i dont want to cheap out on an PSU again anyways

Corsair RMX 650W does seem to to be the cheapest option for me while still being rated as a T1, I will probably go with that then

Edit: btw i'm pretty amazed about the quick and helpful responses in this forum. Really seems to be a great community around here.

wait for a sale or mail in rebate if you can, I paid less for my RM750x then what the 650 is listed for right now.

You can find an RM550X for pretty cheap.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
