The 212 Evo is a capable cooler. Given some decent thermal paste and good case airflow, it should serve you well at stock speeds. It may even be fine for a little overclock, but you generally want AIOs for your i7 OCs.

AIO's (at least ones with 120mm radiators) don't perform THAT much better than Hyper Evo 212...especially when you compare it to the price. Also, some air coolers, especially the "super-duty" noctua ones, perform better than some AIO's.

Should be good, though a Cryorig H7 should cost about the same but perform a little better.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

about how well would a hyper 212 evo perform with stock speeds?

I had it with 6700k and on stock speed it goes like 65 on load and like 30 idle its pretty decent i actually ran an overclock @ 4.5 ghz ( stock is 4.2 ) and I wud get up to 75-78 in everyday gaming sessions,

Its pretty cheap $$ , if you just want to get better than stock cooler, go ahead its gonna do the job pretty well

Alright and should I get an extra 2 fans on top of my case or is it not worth it?

It's unnecessary. Where are you shopping/located?

There are usually similar but better alternatives to the 212 Evo for the price.

My cpu is not overclockable so it would always be at stock speeds and I only have 1 case fan but have room for 2 more should i get the 2 more fans and a 212 evo or just the cooler?

just a cooler would do. get the cryorig m9i instead, same performance but quieter, smaller and cheaper.

My 4790K at stock settings under a 212 Evo in a full-tower case (Rosewill Thor V2) gets temps typically in the mid 60s °C under load.  Prime95 Small FFT runs closer to 80°C if using v26.6, or 100°C with newer versions of P95 SFFT.

I haven't used it, but have heard good things about the Cryorig H7.  (Wonder if @WoodenMarker had that in mind... "There are usually similar but better alternatives to the 212 Evo for the price.)

Was thinking a Gammax 400 or Pure Rock if not the Pure Rock Slim. The H7 is usually a bit more than the 212 Evo.

You won't get anywhere near those temps with a 212 EVO.

With that said, the recommendations everyone else is making is spot on.

Overall, if you aren't overclocking, just make sure you toss on some quality thermal paste too to keep the temps a few degrees lower otherwise.

My friend is running a 212 EVO with some Arctic Silver 5 on his i5 4670K and it sits in the 60s at load.

This is also in a super dusty case, so restricted airflow.

The included paste is fine.

So I am wondering if a hyper 212 evo would be any good for a i7 4790 its at stock speeds and my current goes up to about 90 degrees Celsius and am wondering if this will bring it down to reasonable temperatures or if it will just stay high

I have the 212 EVO on my I5 4460.  Its a big difference to the stock cooler as I had the same issues. Now during heavy gaming I see temps around 60c at the most.  Also my computer never shuts down.  I also used the thermal paste that was supplied with it as I was to lazy to go to the store to buy better stuff.  Works just fine.  If you run into any issues installing it, look up the install video on youtube.

Get a Cryorig M9i. It'll perform just as well, cost $10 less and be easier to use in future builds thanks to its small stature.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
