Yeah that'd be a nice idea, the thing is the "bronze" contribution to at least remove the ads does feel a bit overpriced on that point of view, fp stays on the sweet spot but it is crippled forum feature wise just like Intel likes doing.

Except you do realize YouTube has been crippling creators with demonetization, including a lot of tech creators right? Even though they haven't talked about it I'm sure LTT has been hit. Brian Lunduke, Level 1 Techs, and a bunch of other tech focussed creators have already mentioned these issues.

 

The only real way to successfully monetize YouTube for professional use at this point is to seek external income streams.

 

Floatplane club isn't just about early content. It's about having a seperate curated environment where you can have a more direct interaction with the creator. Then the creator can also offer other stuff on top of that. In LTTs case those are early access, higher quality, DRM Free downloads (without having to violate their copyright license and use third party tools to rip it), and some peeks into behind the scenes stuff.

 

If you don't want to pay for it that's fine, that's your choice, but pretending it's just a week of early access is kind of misrepresentative.

Yeah, I completely agree. If it was $2/month or something I think they'd see a lot more people getting it, it just seems like a horrible value at $5/month. Kind of tempted to see how many people would contribute at a lower price point

Isn't that too similar to Bronze?  I think that "Forum Contributor" or "Contributor" would be better. Or they could rename the existing ones:

• Gold Contributor -> Platinum Contributor
• Silver Contributor -> Gold Contributor
• Bronze Contributor -> Silver Contributor
• Bronze Contributor for $1 a month

Yes Bronze Contribution automatically gives you Floatplane stuff.
