I don't really know the details of your business or how lucrative the embedded video ads are for tunnel bear, cable mods, and your other sponsors. However, I was wondering if it would ever be possible to have a floatplane like option where we pay 10-20$ a month to get LTT videos without those embedded ads? Like a premium subscription basically. IDK if this would be worth it for you guys though. Just thought I would ask. I like your videos but I get tired of watching tunnel bear stuff over and over again. So tired that i'm willing to pay for it.

I tried floatplane for a month and liked it a lot but correct my if I am wrong. I still noticed the ads that you place in your videos inside those as well. I figured 3$ a month wasn't enough money to get rid of those. Just a thought, let me know if its not really financially feasible and i'll never mention it again.

That is not to say that I wouldn't still be cool for the "AMD sponsored" "intel sponsored" build videos. I do like those. Just to be clear with my distinction.

I hate subscription models.

That's 27 years worth of floatplane.

$100 or something would be more worth it.

maybe have lifetime passes as a giveaway item? (Ex. at LTX a giveaway item could be a lifetime floatplane subscription.)

Wait what? I thought floatplane has no pre-rolls or ads?

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

I also hate subscriptions too, but I don't see any other valid way for them to keep it going as a business - unless they had "private episodes" or "original 8k quality" which would get leaked sooner or later.

Floatplane has yearly option. Recurring but still yearly.

And there are no embedded ads. Sponsored videos are there since they are part of overall flow. Same goes with end credits scene which is same. But any preroll or end ads just aren't there. Thats part what you pay for.

Which is hilarious when they have a joke off the ad in the video and then there's just no ad and you're like "Wait... what? Oh... v.v"

@sniperfox you do have to applaud them for their creativity and depth though.

Ya i'd be willing to buy a lifetime floatplane membership. I just didn't like it when i tried it. Idk if they weren't uploading a lot because of all the mezzanine changes and reconstruction but i kind felt like there weren't enough videos. Granted 3$ is not a lot of money and i'd happily pay substantially more to be guaranteed like 2 videos a day of LTT since I love watching their stuff. I mostly like product showcases. Whether I can afford it or not it gives me something to save some money for when I look at the best of the best for TV's or Displays...etc.

there aren't any ads on floatplane club, sponsored videos are not fully blown ads, and are a lot more common than one thinks, its just most media groups don't tell you

as for the price, Luke has hinted a few times on the WAN show afterparty that its likely to go up when the full FPC site launches, with the ridiculous cost of backhaul bandwidth to provide a good experience

I couldn't remember if there were the built in ads on floatplane, but after the first comment mentioned the subscription setup it derailed the topic and I got distracted. Which is that I would like to just pay a flat fee 1 time and have floatplane forever too.

The built in ads get old when watching from youtube.
